How to Properly Dispose of a Face Mask

With the pandemic outbreak of coronavirus nowadays, wearing a face mask is as important as properly disposing of it. Wearing the surgical face mask would be put to no use if the wearer does not know its proper disposal. Avoiding the spread of the disease is not just done by wearing it, but also by disposing of it. That is why it is of great importance that we know the step by step process of the proper disposal of the face mask. The steps are as follows:

Step 1: Wash your hands with soap and water. Take note to do the washing in at least 20 seconds to effectively remove germs and viruses.

Step 2: If you can, sanitize your hands. You may make use of sanitizer which has at least 60% alcohol. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

Step 3: Take off your mask by touching only the earloops. Make sure to never touch the frontal face of the mask since it may be contaminated.

Step 4: Fold your mask into half inwards so that the germs are contained inside the mask. Fold it again until it looks like it is a roll and wraps it using the earloops.

Step 5: Throw in a bin. Make sure to never leave the mask everywhere like on a table or any surface since it may contaminate the area.

Step 6: Wash your hands again with soap and water. Observe the 20-second hand washing period.

Step 7: Sanitize your hands with 60% alcohol-based sanitizer.

Step 8: Dry your hands with a clean towel. Make sure to use the towel only once. If available, you can use disposable table napkins or tissue.
